Before Whole Foods Market in Columbus Circle started to limit its number of people allowed in the store at once, collective panic energy spread like wildfire. With no time to think about composition or lighting, I capture in a panicked matter, mimicking the environment that encompassed me. Shelves were bare, people fighting over the last product left, adults with carts full of stuff and their kids with carts full of stuff. Workers are exhausted - circling the store, taking out old boxes, and wheeling in fresh ones.
As I walked and gathered food for my home, I could see that help and safety were what most people wanted to find on the shelves. Help with which product to get and how many versions. Help with how to feel. Help with what exactly to do or what to foresee. The pictures document the realization of our reliance on this system, our priorities, and the desire for security.
