Portraiture especially holds a unique and special place because of the collaboration it entails of photographer, camera, and subject. She is unique in approach, vitally aware of the power structure embedded in the photographer / subject relationship. Kopenhaver ultimately attempts to capture the unspoken truths and genuine essence of whomever she is asked or seeks to photograph.
